Oliver Schick was born in 1969 in Darmstadt. The small German town has an important cultural significance as one of the leading centers for the country’s Art Nouveau movement, which partly influenced the designer’s decision to pursue a creative career. He completed his product design studies at the HBK - University of Fine Arts and Design in Saarbruecken and founded his own studio in 2005. In addition to his own projects, he collaborates with various companies, including Ligne Roset, Skandiform and Gubi. Oliver Schick aims to design products that apart from fulfilling a functional role, also tell a story and have a distinctive character. His lighting and furniture designs are sometimes inspired by traditional objects, while other times they display a creative take on modern minimalist design.
