Dá Licença Hotel In Portugal

One-of-a-kind, this retreat celebrates the heritage and culture of Alentejo.

During their travels, Vitor Borges and Franck Laigneau stumbled upon the gorgeous Alentejo region in Portugal. While exploring the area, they met local artisans, olive farmers, marble and stone quarry workers, shepherds, and artists. Their visit to Herdade das Freiras marked a turning point in their lives. Built in the 1830s, the farmstead features over thirteen thousand olive trees spread across three hundred acres. The location provides panoramic views over the Serra d’Ossa forest, the Evoramonte and Estremoz castles, vineyards, and rolling hills. Franck Laigneau and Vitor Borges had found home. And they transformed it into one of the most creative boutique hotels Alentejo Portugal has to offer.

The duo opened Dá Licença Hotel in 2018. The building acts both as a special travel location and as a place where guests can immerse themselves into the thousand-year-old culture of Alentejo. More than a stylish retreat that offers a serene break from city living and access to a spectacular landscape, Dá Licença Hotel celebrates the region’s heart and soul: its craftspeople, artists, and heritage. Naturally, the hotel looks unlike other boutique retreats. The decor features artworks, furniture, and decorative objects made locally. An art gallery in the former olive oil press room offers access to the owners’ collection which includes paintings, sculpture, and furniture.

Guests can stay in one of the four suites or three rooms. Eclectic furniture and decorative items showcase the character of handmade objects. Large patios and pergolas provide a relaxed lounge space, while large windows frame the beautiful landscape. Some suites have access to private pools, with other pools also accessible on site. Lounge areas and terraces provide the perfect opportunity to relax while admiring the views. No doubt, this is one of the most impressive boutique hotels Alentejo Portugal has to offer.
