Denim Branded: Jeanswear’s Evolving Design Details

A comprehensive look at the history and evolution of denim branding.

Published by Pennsylvania-based independent publisher Schiffer Publishing, Denim Branded: Jeanswear’s Evolving Design Details provides insight into one of the most popular apparel items of all time. More specifically, the hardcover book explores denim branding via various design elements that give the identity of a pair of jeans and provide clues to their provenance. The tome also provides a glimpse into the manufacturing process of everyone’s favorite material. Written by Nick Williams with Jenny Corpuz, the book deconstructs the branding and design details that go into jeans’ branding.

From patches and buttons to rivets and trims, Denim Branded looks at the elements many of us take for granted. Far from being just a company symbol, these accents provide insight into the ‘source code’ of each pair of jeans. The book tells a captivating story which begins in the 1870s and goes up to the present day. Apart from the informational text, the pages also feature beautiful photography. The book’s sources include the historical archive departments of Levi Strauss & Co., Lee Jeans, Wrangler, or Cone Mills, while the current day covers contemporary denim brands such as Rogue Territory, Denham, Kings of Indigo, Dawson Denim, Endrime, Eat Dust, or Butcher of Blue, among others. Denim Branded: Jeanswear’s Evolving Design Details is available from October, 2018. Photographs© Schiffer Publishing.
