Designer Furniture You Can Download And Make Locally

Over the past few years, we’ve seen more and more companies adopting a local, sustainable manufacturing model in favor of mass-produced products. But Opendesk, a young company based in East London, pushes this approach to a whole new level.
Introducing the “Open Making” concept, the company has created a global marketplace that connects designers, independent craftspeople and customers from all over the world. The cleanly designed and minimalist Opendesk furniture collection is digital. This means that anyone in the world can download a product which can then be made locally by furniture manufacturers and artisans. Revolutionizing the global supply chain one step at a time, Opendesk introduces a personal, local, eco-friendly, and social way of designing and making. This also means that designer furniture, previously inaccessible to many, now becomes available to a wider customer base.

Currently, the company offers furniture for creative work spaces and offices, but it plans to expand to other areas, including products with smart technology. It’s only the beginning. And we can’t wait to see more. Photo credits: Opendesk.
