Baden, Switzerland
Balissat Kaçani is an architecture studio in Baden Baden Switzerland led by Didier Balissat and Joni Kaçani. They begin each commission with fieldwork—watching how a place is used, what its rules are, and which questions can be answered with walls, floors, light, and structure. The office avoids a single “house style”: work ranges from small interventions to large reuses. In a listed farmhouse, a folded concrete stair only a few centimetres thick was cast in place to stabilise the timber shell while slipping in kitchens and baths, opening new routes without touching protected fabric. A former printing hall for a media company was reworked as a daylighted workplace where a new stair stitches departments together and the informal break area doubles as the company’s public face. The partners also teach at Hochschule Luzern under the banner “Spaces of Labor,” using practice as coursework and vice versa. Across scales, the goal is clear, useful plans that make everyday life easier.
