Draftworks*

Nicosia, Cyprus

Draftworks architects* is an architecture studio working between Nicosia and Athens, founded in 2006 by Christiana Ioannou and Christos Papastergiou. Their projects span houses, cultural buildings, and research installations, all rooted in drawing as an investigative tool.

Design work starts as loose, annotated sketches and evolves through full-scale mock-ups, keeping dialogue open with local builders and climate. That method has shaped the layered concrete walls of the Aliki Centre for Environmental Education at Larnaca’s salt lake, the garden-centred House ED on the edge of Nicosia, and competition entries that range from urban‐scale proposals to temporary pavilions. Across scales, the studio pairs readily available materials—white masonry, timber formwork, repurposed scaffolding—with spatial devices that temper sun, wind, and view.

With desks split between Cyprus and Greece, the team continues to treat architecture as a draft: a first attempt that invites revision, reference, and conversation far beyond the drawing board.
