Lisbon, Portugal
Vasco Burnay is a Lisbon-born architect whose path started in the arts at Escola António Arroio. He later earned his architecture degree at Universidade Lusíada in Lisbon, then moved north to complete his master’s at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto. That shift—Lisbon to Porto, and the work in between—became part of his education: different regions, different ways of building, different conversations with clients, builders, and local culture. After five years working across a range of studios, he founded his own practice in 2019.
Burnay describes his architecture as something that comes from the place first, then from the commissioner and local context—and only after that, from the author. He doesn’t treat “style” as the goal. Each project starts by understanding what the client is trying to achieve and what the site is already saying, then shaping a response that feels specific to both.
