Founded in 2013, Yosuke Tomiya Architectural Design is a Sapporo-based architecture studio working across private homes, renovations, medical facilities, and commercial spaces. Its founder studied architecture at Hokkai Gakuen University and spent nine years at Endo Architectural Atelier before establishing his own practice. The studio’s work begins with the particulars of a place and the daily habits of its occupants. Daylight, views, privacy, and the relationships between rooms guide the design, alongside the practical demands of building in Hokkaido’s cold climate. Thermal comfort and ease of maintenance receive the same attention as materials and spatial layout. In Morimado House, these priorities come together in a compact timber home with living spaces arranged at different heights. An open staircase connects the floors, while a window-side reading nook gives the family a place to settle beside the trees. Throughout the house, changing views of the neighboring forest bring the seasons into everyday life.
