Designed by Massimo Facchinetti, this conceptual kitchen is a modular design in the shape of a totem pole. The various modules slide and fold out into place and can be closed when not in use. The innovation saves material and space, conserving earth’s resources and a home cook’s energy. Additionally, the upper sections house solar panels, minimizing the design’s carbon footprint. The metal island can be used from all sides and for almost all aspects of food—from growing herbs and vegetables in its garden module to preparing, serving, and cleaning up after a meal. The modules include a small garden, a refrigerator, an induction hob, a microwave, a sink, a dishwasher, a light, a hood with an air purifier, and a table. Altogether, they pack a power-kitchen into one compact design.
