Many a designer has had those self-indulgent moments of “I can design something better than that.” Of course, the fruition of a final product takes multiple passes and revisions. This motivated and iterative design process is at the heart of Joanna Laajisto’s Edit Lamp, the embodiment of her perfect pendant lamp. The simple lamp with its boldly flared share is neither loud nor apologetic; in fact, it achieves the right balance of modern such that a single Edit Lamp can speak volumes and several can tell an equally compelling story. In addition to its use as a pendant lamp, the notion of easy transformation to wall fixture is part of its charm, and a hint at Laajisto’s design genius. With a simple bracket as the rigid extension of the lamp’s wire and chain, Edit Lamp can be partially fixed as a lovely reading lamp or corner illumination.
