En Concreto By Liliana Ovalle

Inspired by the use of concrete in modernist architecture, the “En Concreto” collection designed by Liliana Ovalle reimagines features of brutalist buildings at a smaller scale. Using the “béton brut” finish as a defining element of the collection, the designer created domestic objects that pay homage to the clean lines and smooth curves of the iconic structures, but also to the imposing presence of concrete behemots of the 50s and 60s.

The shapes of the four objects reference various brutalist features. Most notably, one can easily discover similarities to the rooftop terrace and the concrete pillars of Unité d’habitation by Le Corbusier. Yet the various textures and geometries echo the universal look and feel of modernist structures at the same time. The ambiguous shapes of the four concrete sculptures give them a distinct beauty while also allowing the user to adopt them as multifunctional objects. Photo credits: Liliana Ovalle.
