In Equilibrio By Moreno Ratti

Italian designer Moreno Ratti uses marble to make elegant and modern creations while maintaining traditional craftsmanship and sustainable manufacturing methods at the heart of the designs. The spectacular Suspended Collection acted as a manifesto that decried the harsh reality of modern marble manufacturing methods, yet for In Equilibrio Ratti goes pays homage to the beauty of the natural material and explores its possibilities.

Manufactured by Atelier Carrara, the limited-edition collection contains nine marble vases made with a cylinder shape. By cutting away sections of the bases, the designer created a dynamic group of objects that tilt at different angles. The perfectly balanced vases almost seem to fall over, yet the solidity of the natural material anchors them in a striking contrast between static and dynamic. Impressive as singular pieces, the handmade vases truly come alive in a combination of two or three objects. Photo credits: Moreno Ratti.
