Escondido Oaxaca

A contemporary hotel that pays homage to Oaxaca’s traditions and artisans.

A popular travel destination, Oaxaca, Mexico attracts tourists from all over the world with its rich culture, history, architecture, and traditions. Now, travelers have the opportunity to enjoy a comfortable stay in a new, beautifully designed hotel. Part of Grupo Habita’s chain of boutique hotels, Escondido Oaxaca offers provides a contemporary twist on traditional design. Architect Alberto Kalach and interior designers Lucía Corredor, Cecilia Tena, and Carlos Couturier transformed a 19th-century house into an elegant, 12-room hotel that celebrates authenticity. Every detail of Escondido Oaxaca celebrates local culture as well as the skill of artisans. Wood, exposed brick, and concrete come together in a contemporary design that still maintains its rustic warmth.

Apart from the original house which now houses four rooms, a restaurant, public areas, a bar, and a pool on the roof, the hotel also features a new tower at the back with eight more rooms. Each room has its own design and artisanal touches, featuring custom-made furniture as well as accessories made locally. Some rooms offer access to private patios, while others have spacious balconies.

On the ground floor, the restaurant boasts large windows that overlook Morelos street. Chef Mario Petterino’s Italian menu features authentic Piedmont recipes passed down from generation to generation. When they’re not exploring the city, guests can relax on the large patio or go to the top floor for cocktails at the bar. The Culture Room offers a quiet space for reading, but guests on business trips can also work in peace here. Throughout the hotel, the team used the same materials and light color palette; the understated aesthetic pays homage to traditional craftsmanship through refined contemporary design.
