Exploded Flowers by Fong Qi Wei

Gerbera

Both a botanical and aesthetic study, Fong Qi Wei’s series of photographs Exploded Flowers offers a rare look at the individual petals of favorite blooms. The featured flowers – the rose, gerbera, lotus, lily, and orchid among them – are carefully disassembled and placed in their natural radial composition. Floating against a background of white, the beautiful color gradients on the vibrant petals can be well appreciated. Whereas the sunflower is a bold statement of yellow, the purple-pink tips of the dahlia fade into white and then into chartreuse. Differences in hue, form, number, and concentration are all variables in this breathtakingly artistic experiment conducted by Qi Wei.
