The Flip Desk

A practical, fold-away desk inspired by laptops and vintage wall-mounted kitchen scales.

Creating a home office in a small apartment is not easy. Often, the dining tables ends up doubling as a workstation, but that comes with obvious drawbacks. To solve this issue, Swiss architect and designer Charles O. Job has designed the practical Flip Desk for Eindhoven-based Dutch brand Vij5. Drawing inspiration from laptops and vintage wall-mounted kitchen scales, the desk features a practical, fold-away system that saves previous floor space. The folding desk on wall mounted hardware suits both home working and flexi-working thanks to an ingenious hinge and magnet system. Easy to install, the Flip Desk features a flip-down top that creates the work area. A specially designed wooden hinge supports the top while working.

Set against the wall, a handy storage compartment offers plenty of room for smaller desk accessories as well as a laptop, writing tools, and other items. When not in use, the worktop easily folds back up and remains there thanks to a strong magnet. The front thus covers the storage spaces, keeping the room looking elegant and clutter-free. Vij5 produces the Flip Desk entirely in the Netherlands. The folding desk on wall mounted hardware features a laser-cut and welded steel frame with a durable powder coating finish. The worktop is made from Ecoplex plywood with a double-sided Forbo linoleum layer that allows the user to easily clean the desk. A handmade solid oak hinge completes the design. The Vij5 Flip Desk comes in three versions: White, Green and Pink. Finally, the brands ships this product in an eco-friendly, made-to-measure box manufactured from 80% recycled cardboard.
