Gold Scrap by Vik Muniz

One person’s trash is another’s treasure. Vik Muniz, known for seeing the potential in a junk yard, gathered a collection of gold scrap metals to configure these five shimmering designs of a sea horse, an angel fish, a samambaia leaf, a humming bird, and a salamander. They are a demonstration of taking something cumbersome, clunky, unrefined, and transforming the sum parts into glittering notes, just about as frail and delicate as can be, sitting in their assigned seats, winking at all of us that look. Possibly, the artist has written a message of hope, esperro, if you will, that not everything is worthless, so much so are you valuable in this world. All projects will be made into digital prints and showing at the Armory Show in New York beginning today, March 7 at the Rena Bransten Gallery.
