Happy Red Fish

Hagar Vardimon-van Heummen has dedicated her studio Happy Red Fish to this simple statement, “Love paper, love thread and adore the combination.”  Based out of Amsterdam her collection features black and white prints with spools of color sewn into the paper creating a whole new look and a favorable feel. We are taken through a new concourse of art sometimes following the course of the print, other times taking us to a new version. The outlines may not be as we see them. In the Lonely Houses series, the threads collect on an axis of chimneys, doorways, peaks. She created a grounding point with some, steadying the entire structure from the fan of stitches below. Our minds are taken to a place of correctable thinking where we dare not question the movement of the threads, their placement, their purpose. Rather we can delight in the sensory stimulate tempting us to touch such curious tapestries.
