For wine connoisseurs, Hotel Viura is the perfect place to stay during a trip to Villabuena de Álava, Spain. The hotel, which has 33 guest rooms and also two bars within the complex, provides a taste of the luxury and cultural richness of the land and industry. The non-orthogonal volumes that compose Hotel Viura, designed by Designhouses, are stacked in a topsy-turvy fashion – as if the entire hotel itself had indulged a little too far on the wineries of the Rioja region. From afar, the facades of warm burgundies and a contrasting gray-white are another raised glass to the dichotomies of wine. Old barrels that used to hold wine decorate the rafters of the in-house restaurant, and the private rooms also present a rustic, yet decadent experience. Patios overlooking the rest of the village and the landscape make the promise of a vacation that is satisfying and intoxicating.
