The Hoof Cafe

A brutalist, minimalist interior that references equestrian architecture.

Dubai-based studio Bone designs spaces that challenge expectations while redefining conventional practices and stereotypes in surprising ways. One of their latest projects exemplifies this creative approach perfectly. Located in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, the Hoof cafe looks unlike any other coffee shop. That’s because the interior offers a brutalist interpretation of countryside equestrian architecture. The minimalist space embodies the concept of sensory architecture with natural materials that create a tactile and visual symphony throughout the cafe.

Simple and almost austere, the interior explores the essential function of equestrian stalls that focus on essential features. At the heart of the space, the coffee bar features a series of monolithic stainless steel volumes. Placed in a deconstructed pattern, these blocks highlight the essence of each coffee making process.

The studio complemented the industrial metal surfaces with a range of earthy, raw materials and finishes. Apart from terracotta concrete and sand, the team chose clay plaster and lime finishes as well as light and warm colors. Plush cushions from Astrid provide more seating comfort while wooden stools add another rustic touch to the space. Finally, Flos spotlights and PS Lab wall lights brighten the interior.
