A Beautiful Hotel in Oia Greece

A 19th-century home transformed into an elegant hotel.

Located on the gorgeous island of Santorini, this small hotel in Oia Greece celebrates the past via modern design. The building dates back to the 19th-century. An old residence left almost in ruins, the structure featured a stable and a wood-burning oven on the ground floor and living spaces on the upper level. Kapsimalis Architects renovated and re-designed the building. The team preserved as much as possible from the original residence, keeping any alterations to a minimum. Subtle changes improve the functionality of the structure, with additions also required by the building’s new role as a hotel. These include dividing the interior spaces and upgrading the main staircases as well as adding private pools.

Blended into the rocky landscape, the hotel features light brown-gray plaster on the exterior, gray wooden window frames, and volcanic stones on the retaining walls. Local vegetation such as olive trees, lavender, and thyme integrate the building into its setting further. Stepping inside, guests find three rooms on the ground level and two more rooms on the first floor. Each room has its own lounge and bathroom as well as a private entrance and outdoor terrace. The décor combines handcrafted wooden furniture and gray wood flooring with bright white walls. Minimal, modern furniture and accessories give the interior a refined finishing touch. On the roof of this hotel in Oia Greece, guests can relax in a common lounge area and admire the sea and the picture-perfect Santorini sunset. Photographs© Giorgos Sfakianakis.
