Hotel Wiesergut by Gogl Architekten

Hotel Wiesergut is a winter wonderland if there ever was one. Designed by Gogl Architekten, the complex of rooms and offices in the subtle neutrals of granite, glass, and exposed concrete make the building a fortress in the snow. Among the hinterlands of Hinterglemm, Austria, the slab roofs become frosted with the white of the weather, tying into the solemnity and quietness of the retreat’s interiors. Even wooden accents and the specially commissioned furniture display a natural gray tint, though the amber glow from hanging lights and wall sconces illuminate the building. From afar, Hotel Wiesergut appears as a welcoming village, with individual iron-wrought balconies extending from each room and curtains softening the stony walls and cool glazing. The majesty of the hotel is made palatable by its homey accents; if only it could be captured in a portable snow globe.
