House in Blacksod Bay by Tierney Haines Architects

Tierney Haines Architects takes the premise of a courtyard as inspiration for House in Blacksod Bay, projecting the original idea – both internally and externally – onto a homey, intimate setting on a local farm in Mayo, Ireland. All programmatic elements of the stone-clad building revolve around the kitchen, an internal “courtyard” forming a central hub for the family. Guest bedrooms are pushed to the extremities to encourage human presence in the central space. A palette of neutral tones from earthy textures including sandstone, lime, and linen defers to the green grass and blue sky outside, encouraging use of the outdoor courtyard framed by the cluster of adjacent buildings.
