Designed by OOPEAA, House Rihii is a home and atelier in the rural village of Alajärvi, Finland. The property is composed of three volumes—an L-shape main building, a garage and hobby area, and a lofted studio. Each space is lined with radially-sawn spruce and roofed with untreated aluminum for a traditional Finnish cottage look as well as resource conservation. Additionally, the construction is eco-friendly because of its compressed timber insulation with paper sealing, solar power, four fireplaces for heating, and large windows. The windows bring sunlight into each room and also offer views of the interior courtyard and garden, strengthening the residents’ connection to nature.
