A sleek, height-adjustable bar stool inspired by the hula hoop.

Launched during Milan Design Week 2019, the Hula bar stool marks the first collaboration between London-based design studio LAYER and Spanish furniture brand Andreu World. The fresh design features circular forms and clean lines as well as a playful character. The geometric elements come together to create a unified form that maximizes style. Contemporary and cool, the swivel bar stool is also convenient as it allows the user to adjust the height as needed. The footrest that circles the stem draws inspiration from the hula hoop – and thus gives the stool its name. A built-in hook under the seat provides a convenient way to hang a jacket or a smaller bag and keep them close.

Apart from its sleek good looks, the Hula bar stool is also tough enough to handle demanding environments. Indeed, this refined design is specifically made for contract use in restaurants, bars, and hospitality venues. It has a sturdy but lightweight aluminum and steel frame that supports durable ABS plastic elements in a hard-wearing build. Hula comes in two versions: with or without a backrest. Other options include different backrest heights, an upholstered seat pad, and a choice of Kvadrat textiles for the upholstery. If you’ve missed this year’s Milan Design Week, you can see this design in person in the US. Andreu World will show Hula at NeoCon in Chicago in June, 2019. Photographs© Andreu World.
