Based in British Columbia, Monos draws inspiration from nature to design understated products that also make a statement. The studio’s name refers to the Japanese concept of ‘mono no aware’, which references a melancholy-tinged awareness of the transience of things. The brand’s new Monos Luggage collection features an impressive attention to detail as well as a range of innovative elements. At a glance, the minimal aesthetic stands out. The asymmetric rhythm of the grooved lines mirrors the concept of change – and travel – in a subtle way.

While the matte finish of the material has a beautiful textured surface, the luggage hides more behind its stylish good looks. The innovative, German-made aerospace-grade polycarbonate material is harder than the average ABS plastic luggage, won’t crack under pressure, and will even bounce back into shape. This means that the shell protects the contents at all times, even a fragile bottle of wine. Tough and durable, the polycarbonate material is also ultra-lightweight.

Function complements style in the Monos Luggage line. As a result, the suitcases come with ergonomic handles that feature high-grade aluminum instead of flimsy zinc and a custom-designed system that reduces lateral movement. Sturdy and comfortable to hold, the handles also have a bottom release button for a more natural activation. Hinomoto Silent Run wheels, color-coordinated reverse coil zippers, and matching Italian leather accents complete the design.

The Monos Luggage collection includes three sizes: Carry-On, Carry-On Plus, and Check-In. All three come in eight colors that range from Stellar White and Rose Quartz to Olive Green and Midnight Black. The collection will also have a lower than expected price, as the studio aims to eliminate retailer markups.
