Introducing Surface Straws

Sustainable glass straws designed with sculptural forms and eye-catching colors.

Created in a collaboration between London-based design agency Layer and leading design magazine Surface, the Surface Straws collection brings an elegant twist to sustainable design. Easy on the eyes and easier to use than their paper counterparts, these straws are made from recycled borosilicate glass. This means that they are reusable, durable, hypoallergenic, recyclable, and easy to clean. Unlike metal straws, glass straws don’t have an effect on the taste of drinks, making the drinking experience more enjoyable. The durability and strength of the borosilicate glass conveniently makes these straws suitable for both cold and hot drinks.

Since they’re a Layer Design concept, the straws offer more than just a practical alternative to single-use plastic. These glass straws feature complementary colors and sculptural silhouettes that draw inspiration from the shape of branches. Naturally, they double as centerpieces on the dining table. To highlight their decorative look, the studio has designed a beautiful display case with a recycled rubber base and a borosilicate glass dome. The Surface Straws collection includes three reusable glass straws with different heights and sizes which make them perfect for a huge range of beverages, from cocktails to thick milkshakes.
