Linito Chair

Designed by Yu Ito for Italian company Formabilio, Linito is best described as a modern throne. The chair’s regal nature has the ability to fill a room; bold, laser-cut steel creates graphic lines that emphasize the strength of the material. Despite the harsh nature of the metal, the exaggerated and dramatic form allows for a generously curved seat and back. Inito describes his process of folding and rolling paper to achieve a model of the closed base and open seat found in the final design. While the design pulls its inspiration from the past, it appears almost futuristic in its use of geometry and color, which in turn provide a playful contrast to the authoritative sheet metal structure. Matching cushions made from eco-friendly fabric are available to complete the chair’s throne-like illusion.
