Lucio Fontana’s ‘Ambienti Spaziali’ Exhibition In Milan

Legendary artist Lucio Fontana changed the art world with his transcendental work that not only explored the concepts of space and light, but also moved beyond the two-dimensional limits of the canvas. Experimental and ephemeral, his ‘Ambienti Spaziali’ installations took shape in the 1940s, but appear now in all their glory in an iconic location, Milan’s Pirelli HangarBicocca.

Displayed and then almost always destroyed, the revolutionary works were recently restored for this special show. To bring the installations to life, the Lucio Fontana Foundation worked with art conservator Barbara Ferrianiart and historian Marina Pugliese, co-curators of the show along with Vicente Todolí, Artistic Director of the museum. Seen here together for the first time, the installations take visitors on a once-in-a-lifetime art journey. Innovative and strikingly contemporary, Fontana’s works display his pioneering genius. They also introduce a new generation of art lovers to one of the most influential artists of the mid-twentieth century. The Ambienti Spaziali/Spatial Environments show runs until 25 February 2018.
