Designed by Max Gunawan of San Francisco, Lumio is a handsome portable light that looks like a journal. The lightweight design weighs about 1.5 lbs (0.7 kg) and can be carried as a book. When opened, the lamp automatically turns on, illuminating any space with a warm, seemingly magical glow. The hidden LEDs give off up to 500 lumen, and their light is softened by the pages of Tyvek, a durable, water-resistant, translucent material. Powered by LiOn battery, Lumio charges via micro USB for up to eight hours of continuous use, indoors or outdoors. The design’s neodymium magnets snap together, so that the lamp can stand alone in an accordion shape or stick to metal surfaces. Available in limited production, the Lumio is hand-assembled for quality assurance. The wooden cover is lasercut from one’s choice of FSC-certified dark walnut, cherry, or blonde maple and finished with natural veneer.
