Maxi Magnano’s Nostalgic Photography

Mesmerizing photos of urban landscapes and everyday settings at night.

Born in 1989 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Maxi Magnano only took up photography at the age of 25. While he initially enjoyed taking pictures with a digital camera as a hobby, he soon started to focus on photography full-time and expand his portfolio. Throughout his work, Maxi Magnano captures a feeling of melancholia and nostalgia. He prefers to shoot everyday settings and places devoid of human subjects, instilling a sense of solitude in haunting images. Light and shadow become a crucial factor in bringing this atmosphere to life, with night scenes illuminated by soft neon lights or street lighting. Wandering around, especially in new, strange places, the photographer frames unexpected scenes while leaving plenty of room for poetic interpretation.

Every image tells a story, whether it’s the vase of pink roses left in the flower shop window after closing or the open newspaper near a radio at an empty counter. Like many photographers, Maxi Magnano prefers to use a 35mm film camera. Unlike most photographers, however, his choice has a different explanation rather than the distinctive look of film photography. He likes to shoot a roll and then forget about the images until he re-discovers them after the developing process.
