Modern Chair Design Meets Minimalism – The Hurdle Collection

Back in 2015, Melbourne-based studio Dowel Jones created a practical and minimalist chair design for the Australian Broadsheet Restaurant. Soon afterward, the chair began gaining popularity in the hospitality world. So the studio did the next logical thing. It designed a Hurdle collection based on that first version of the Hurdle chair. Made of powder coated steel and oak or beech, the collection includes several chairs, benches, and a stool. The simple silhouette and minimalist aesthetic makes the seating ideal for both commercial or residential spaces, while the variety of designs suits almost any need.

All of the designs boast a white frame with light brown wood seats and backrests, but the studio also offers some optional colors and finishes for some of the products. Both the Half Hurdle and Full Hurdle chairs come in taller versions, with the benches also available in various lengths. First exhibited at the 2017 Milan design week, the collection is now available on the studio’s official website. Photographs© Dowel Jones.
