Custom “Matanda” City Bike By Winter Bicycles

Named “Matanda”, which in Tagalog means “old” or “old man”, this classic city bike has various vintage components and an upright sitting position to ensure a gentler ride. The owner is a friend of Winter Bicycles owner Eric Estlund, so the humorous name came naturally. The bicycle features vintage Prugnat 62/D lugs from the 1970s, but upgraded for this beautiful custom build with refined curves, tightened spirals, and a higher rise extension. The S&S travel couplers boast similar line patterns to the lugs, bringing together the look of the bike nicely.

Matanda also comes with modern tubes and vintage fork tips and drop outs. The threadless stem has a powder coating finish in black as well as matching black luggage carriers at the front and rear. Both carriers suit RuthWorks SF luggage, making that gentle commute a bit more comfortable. As a finishing touch, the workshop added a custom mixed ceramic coating that not only provides durability, but also brings old-time enamel finishes to mind. A pale yellow and light brown palette with black and silver accents completes the look. Photographs© Winter Bicycles.
