Originally introduced as a prototype at IFA 2017, the Reference Class Direct Drive Turntable SP-10R made by Technics recently received an official launch date, pleasing audiophiles from all over the world. Presented as the company’s “most premium turntable ever,” the new SP-10R turntable features a blend of state-of-the-art digital and analogue technologies. These include an impressive Sound to Noise ratio of 92 dB – a world’s best – as well as a superior wow ratio, rotational stability and flutter. A coreless direct drive motor and a heavy platter that weighs 7kg ensure an exceptional audio quality, while the power supply sits in a different unit to eliminate vibrations.
In terms of design, the turntable combines a touch of minimalism with refined elegance. Golden brass complements silver aluminum, with a hidden support also making the unit seem like it’s floating. If you want to get your hands on the new SP-10R, you’ll have to wait until early summer 2018; that’s when the unit will be available at select retailers. Photographs© Technics.
