A raconteur is an expert storyteller, and Atelier Altern takes on this responsibility of spinning a tale through their project, On vous raconte des salades. Even without a translation, it is clear – but perhaps curious – that salad is the protagonist of this narrative. Commissioned by Maison de la Culture d’Amiens, the project puts two architectural shelters over the islands of the Hortillonnages, accessible to visitors by boat. For the design of the netted structure, a number of pentagonal wooden frames are placed in sequence to dictate the multifaceted, polygonal form of the translucent shelter. The folded geometry encourages visitors’ exploration on the islands and highlights the leafy treasures protected within.
