Patricia Urquiola Designs Stylish Tableware Collection For Georg Jensen

Architectural shapes, vintage designs and a refined contemporary style blend in the Urkiola tableware collection designed by world-renowned designer and architect Patricia Urquiola for legendary Danish brand Georg Jensen. This elegant series follows on the footsteps of two other successful collaborations between the company and design icons, which include a jewelry line created by the late Zaha Hadid and a tea set with mammoth tusks designed by Marc Newson.

The Art Deco references, the powerful simplicity of the silhouettes, and the stylish and masculine appearance blend to offer a fresh take on traditional tableware.

Born in Spain, Urquiola lives and works in Milan, collaborating with leading Italian companies and international brands. The collection’s name references the designer’s heritage by using the traditional Basque spelling of ‘Urkiola’, which is also the name of a mountain range in the region. Taking inspiration from the Bernadotte series which was launched by Georg Jensen in 1939, but also wanting to move away from the recent trend of stainless steel items designed with graceful, feminine and organic lines, Patricia Urquiola created a range of minimalist cylindrical shapes that combine smooth, gleaming surfaces and ribbed sections. The Art Deco references, the powerful simplicity of the silhouettes, and the stylish and masculine appearance blend to offer a fresh take on traditional tableware. The Urkiola series contains five pitchers, three bowls, two candle holders, two vases, and a tray; some of the pieces feature a rose-gold colored PVD finish that complements the silver gray surface of the stainless steel. Created to have more than just one purpose (the vase can be used as a bottle cooler, for example), this collection perfectly combines style and function. Photo credits: Georg Jensen.
