Patricia Urquiola

The world-renowned Patricia Urquiola calls herself “Spanish by birth, and Italian by choice.” She was born in Oviedo, Spain, but moved to Italy to finish her architecture studies at the Milan Polytechnic in 1989, where she completed her graduate thesis under the guidance of legendary industrial designer Achille Castiglioni. She has collaborated with Italian designers, including Maddalena de Padova and Patrizia Moroso and has designed products for numerous international brands, from Missoni to BMW and Louis Vuitton. Her architectural projects include Barcelona’s Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Missoni shops in several international locations. Patricia Urquiola’s work has been awarded numerous awards, including Red Dot Design Awards and iF Design Award Gold awards. She exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, Art Basel in Switzerland and at the Triennale Museum in Milan, to name a few, with her Fjord armchair also included in MoMA New York’s permanent collection. Patricia Urquiola lives and works in Milan.
