Plácido y Grata Hotel

A boutique hotel located in a restored manor house from the 19th century.

After years of extensive restoration work and a complete redesign process, the Plácido y Grata hotel opened its doors to guests on September 23, 2021. Located in a 19th century manor house in the historic center of Seville, Spain, the 4-star boutique hotel offers a tranquil experience to visitors, immersing them in a calm, peaceful space where traditional vernacular architecture combines with contemporary Scandinavian design. Barcelona-based architecture and interior design studio Your Living Space completed the renovation of the building, which was in a sate of near ruin, and redesigned the interiors.

The team approached the project in a holistic way, highlighting the beauty and character of the historical house while complementing its original elements with a carefully curated selection of Nordic designs. As a result, the hotel boasts stunning, inviting spaces that seamlessly merge past and present. Upon entering the building, guests discover a bright interior courtyard – a reflection of the city’s 19th century architecture. Marble columns and arcades lead to this central patio, where a fountain and gardens invite guests to relax completely. Light colored wooden beams, preserved from the original building, complement Scandinavian furniture and lighting. Ceramic latticework creates a play between the warm sunlight of Seville and shadows on the floors and walls.

Stylish rooms that offer complete comfort.

The hotel has 15 rooms divided into four categories: standard, superior, deluxe, and suite. The studio designed all of them with noble materials as well as a warm minimalist style. For example, contemporary Scandinavian furniture and lighting from Carl Hansen & Søn, Menu, Skagerak, Muuto, or Ferm Living appear alongside terracotta tiles, stone surfaces, and warm, natural colors. The designers also used vintage pieces from the 1950s and 1960s, including some created by Le Corbusier and Miguel Milá. Regardless of origin and style, all of the products in the hotel represent sustainable manufacturing. Guests can also order almost any piece from Your Living Space Atelier.

Comfortable and designed to enhance well-being, the rooms feature Coco-Mat mattresses and textiles made from natural materials; flower arrangements from a local florist; and natural bathroom products made in Denmark. Plácido y Grata also has a café, a cocktail bar, a shop, and a meeting room. When not relaxing in their rooms or the suites’ private terraces, guests can lounge in the courtyard with a cup of specialty coffee while listening to the sound of trickling water that comes from the fountain. Nearby, there are plenty of interesting locations to visit; from the Palace of Monsalves to the Santa Cruz quarter or the Metropol Parasol (Las Setas) by architect Jürgen Mayer. Guests can rent bikes from the reception and explore the city on two wheels. It’s great way to see Seville’s best attractions, including its restored riverbank. Photography© Plácido y Grata.
