The classic rocking chair gets a modern Danish makeover with the Rocking Nest Chair. Designed by Copenhagen-based Anker Bak for iconic brand Carl Hansen & Son, the chair displays the company’s love of traditional craftsmanship, natural materials and elegant minimalism. Blending a compact shape with a folding construction, the designer created a chair that would perfectly suit urban dwellings where extra space may be in short supply. The oval shape provides a fresh take on the classic designs, while the combination of solid wood and steel enhance the chair’s modern aesthetic.
“Form and function are equally important, and I always place strong emphasis on the construction – here, Hans J Wegner has been the best possible teacher and source of inspiration,” says Bak. But the Rocking Nest Chair is not just beautiful and practical, it also features an impressive level of craftsmanship. From the stitching on the leather and canvas covers to the stainless steel bolts and polished finishes that complement matte surfaces, the design perfectly represents the pathos of the legendary Danish brand. If you’re in New York City, you can actually see the chair in person – as well as other gorgeous designs – at Carl Hansen & Son’s recently opened showroom. Photographs © Carl Hansen & Son.
