The Rook Stool

Minimalist stools inspired by the silhouette of chess pieces.

Named Rook, Ross Gardam’s latest collection subtly references the classic chess piece in minimalist, abstract forms. A beautiful example of contemporary Australian design, the series also embodies the best of Australian craftsmanship. The Rook stools feature rounded seats and bases with timber uprights that interplay with the cylindrical steel footrests, placed horizontally. Inside the solid wood body, steel skeletons provide support while further minimizing the stools’ silhouette. The two materials – timber and steel – pay homage to the beauty of natural wood and to the enduring quality of traditional craftsmanship.

The Rook stools come in different sizes and heights to suit a wide range of spaces and needs. Additionally, the collection comprises different materials and finishes. Apart from solid American walnut with a warmer color and white oak, the stools also come in a darker blackened oak version. The base and footrest boast a black powder-coated finish. Upholstery in custom leather or custom textiles is also available, offering a convenient way to personalize the Rook stool and make it extra comfortable.
