Building a barn is like stripping a piece of architecture from any additional adornments and details to truly appreciate the beauty of its organic nature. Vans Vanbelle built a structure that melts into its environment while also maintaining the vigor of a remarkable building. The Schuurbain barn has two concrete walls which are anchored to a polished concrete slab with glass filled side walls right above them. Each wall has an open window to peep through at eye level. The length of the barn is accentuated through the wooden trusses that were sandwiched by three horizontal wooden beams between the concrete wall. Its roof is made up of poly-carbonate; a light material that reinforces the openness of the barn while also allowing light to seep in. The doors are made from galvanized steel with an outer planking while two plateaus with hay stacked on top of them were used to close off the rest of the front facade. With light filled interiors and pure open space, who wouldn’t dream to have a place like this?
