While distinctly modern and fresh, DesignByThem’s new Soda chair draws inspiration from a surprising source for its bold aesthetic. Designer Marcel Sigel believes in establishing an emotional connection between product and user. His quirky designs draw attention with eye-catching features, and the Soda chair is no exception. Inspired by 19th-century furniture, the chair boasts a curved frame that mirrors the shape of bent solid wood. “Soda is a new indoor/outdoor armchair inspired by the classic forms of 19th-century bentwood furniture. With its unassuming character, the design evokes something both familiar and unique,” explains the designer.
The chair features a play between positive and negative space, bringing a creative accent into indoor and outdoor living spaces. Framed by the stainless steel tubes, the metal mesh sections provide support and comfort. Thanks to the durable powder coated stainless steel build, the chair suits any residential area as well as commercial spaces such as cafes and restaurant terraces. As functional as it is modern, Soda has a conveniently stackable design to occupy minimal space while in storage. Available now in black and white, the chair also comes in custom colors, upon request. Photographs© Grant Harvey and Pete Daly.
