Good design is the spice of life. This ball and socket-style grinder is the perfect example.
Designed by Brooklyn-based innovators Che-Wei Wang and Taylor Levy of CW&T, Spicy is an ingenious pepper and spice grinder that is as fun to use as it’s practical. Compact but weighty, the mortar and pestle provide an easy way to crush pepper and spices to make dishes come alive with fresh flavors. The concept is simple and clever, with the two parts weighing 1.31 kg, or almost 3 lbs, to make the spice grinding process as easy as possible.
Machined from solid stainless steel, the two components are high-quality as well as durable and conveniently dishwasher-safe. The pestle has a gently rounded top and a spherical-shape that perfectly fits the socket-like form of the mortar; this seamless match allows for smooth movement when crushing spices. A textured finish with a rough surface also aids in the grinding process.
On the exterior, a glass bead finish gives Spicy a tactile feel. The bottom boasts a natural cork layer that not only provides cushioning support but also ensures that Spicy slides on smooth or polished surfaces without making a scratch. With a capacity of one tablespoon, this weighted stainless steel grinder offers a practical way to add more flavor to food and spice up the kitchen decor. Photography© CW&T.
