Stokkøya Cabin

A cozy cabin embedded into a stunning landscape in Norway.

Located on the island of Stokkøya, Norway, this weekend and vacation retreat makes the most of the gorgeous natural views to offer a serene escape from city living. For Stokkøya Cabin, the Kappland Arkitekter firm designed a dwelling that becomes a part of the landscape. The house stands on a steep slope, nestled into a hillside that provides views of the Norwegian Sea. Both the black cladding and the minimalist design help to blend the cottage into its setting. Two outdoor areas overlook different parts of the site, providing a convenient solution to use the space more sheltered from the wind at any given time. While one patio opens to the sea, the other faces the hill and surrounding vegetation.

The interior features different levels that follow the sloping plot. The architects optimized the cabin’s footprint and available space with built-in furniture as well as ingeniously integrated storage areas. The use of light birch wood for the furniture. ceilings, walls, and floors creates a simple, understated decor. This interior design decision also allows the beauty of the island to shine through. Large windows frame the sea, verdant surroundings, and rocky terrain, helping the inhabitants to feel a part of Stokkøya’s stunning landscape. Photographs© Kappland Arkitekter.
