Superheroes Return to Gotham in Jason Dussault Art Exhibit

From today, March 25, to April 8, 2015, superheroes return to Gotham in Deconstructive/Constructive by Jason Dussault, a fashion-designer-turned-artist who is dually based in Vancouver and New York City. Favorite comic book characters such as Wonder Woman, Thor, Hulk, Batman, and Superman are larger-than-life in Dussault’s mosaics. Each piece is made with paint, resin, wood panels, and found ceramics such as vintage porcelain. The breakable materials illustrate the struggle between power and mortality that makes the superhero stories such classics. Honoring another legend, the central piece is a pastiche of George Delmerico’s mashup “A marvel – Ous Evening with Stan Lee, 1972.” Dussault’s arresting artwork can now be found at the Hoerle-Guggenheim, downtown in New York City. In keeping with the hero theme, proceeds from the exhibition go toward Free Arts NYC, an organization that provides arts education and mentorship to underprivileged children and their families.
