In Sydney, Australia, Andrew Burges Architects renovated a 1940 house into this sustainable single-story home for a large family of six. They increased the natural lighting, connected the indoor space to the garden, and installed hydronic underfloor heating beneath the polished concrete floors. They reused the original brickwork to line several walls throughout the home, saving resources and giving each room a varied texture. Modernizing the space, they installed American oak joinery, sliding screens, built-in storage, and generous windows and skylights, which save energy and rejuvenate the look of the interior.
