The Art of Luckey Remington

Born in Springfield, Oregon, Luckey Remington now lives and works in sunny Los Angeles, where he had his first solo exhibition in 2014, “Cause of Itself” at the Dilettante Gallery. His artworks feature clean geometric compositions or rounded shapes, whether in mixed media on paper or wooden sculptures. Along with an exploration of form, there’s a strong emphasis on color and various harmonies achieved when elements are brought together in a final composition. The artist’s creative process involves constant repetition with the aim to refine the visual structure to a clear form, recording and addressing each change and step in order to create a visual lexicon which evolves throughout various series. This language gains a certain rhythm as it fluctuates in time and ultimately reveals the beauty of imperfections and the artists’ own input across artworks. Negative spaces are not just a part of this process, but a crucial element of the final works, defining both the anchored structures and the spaces in between. The imposing sculptures add a physical dimension as they allow the artist to enhance the lexicon through another vantage point. Balance, the meaning of transience and permanence, exploration of form and color can all be found throughout Remington’s art, along with a clear sense of order born out of a constant analysis of change and evolution.
