Artist Cecilia Beaven has brought new light to what it means to paint a house; a public billboard composes the façade of her abode and the canvas of her art. The Billboard House designed by Julio Gómez Trevilla for scribe offers the regular amenities for Beaven’s comfort and also a trapdoor that opens to the billboard’s front. From her perch in the sky, Beaven completed a large-scale mural with anime-like characters floating through a colorful world. In some sense, Beaven herself was one of these figures, for her temporary stay in the lofted house mirrored the freedom of the skies as depicted on the billboard. Vibrant colors upon the mural capture attention from miles around, though the house is cleverly hidden from sight. As onlookers watched the work-in-progress, little did they know that they also caught a glimpse of the private life of the artist, and witnessed a new duality emerging from the public and personal in artistic performance.
