The Louis Speaker – Where Italian Design Meets Nostalgia

Named after the legendary Louis Armstrong, this wooden analog smartphone speaker brings back the ‘good old days’ of music via an innovative design and stylish appearance. Unlike other speakers, Louis doesn’t just amplify sounds, but suffuses them with the unmistakable warmth and nostalgia of vintage vinyl records. The speaker creates a unique atmosphere and enhances the listening experience by mimicking the charm of retro records and giving songs a melancholy layer. Created by Paolo Cappello for Newblack, the design follows on the footsteps of the Caruso gramophone, taking inspiration from the past to lend the modern device a timeless appeal. The elegant and curved shape is subtly reminiscent of a trumpet, while the beech wood features an aniline treatment that protects the surface and intensifies the organic patterns of the wood grain. The speaker comes with a custom made app which is currently available only for iOS; users will be able to create some musical magic by simply placing their smartphone in the dock and pressing play. You can order your own Louis in natural, yellow, or anthracite from the Newblack website. Images courtesy of Paolo Cappello.
