The Reiecta Project

Taking marble waste and turning it into beautiful and functional objects is, unarguably, an admirable pursuit. We’re happy to introduce an Italian project with a meaningful mission. Reiecta is a collective of designers which aims to ‘reverse’ the industrial process of marble manufacturing in a creative way. The project began with a startling find: large amounts of marble waste, discarded during the manufacturing process and forgotten in a woodland area, close to an Italian quarry site. Open to the elements, the natural material provided the perfect growing environment for different life forms. Water stains, growing roots and cracks in the surface further transformed the marble.

Reiecta uses exactly this kind of production waste, reclaimed by nature, as raw material. So far, the collective designed two objects. Le Poule is a table with three or four copper or chrome zinc legs. Ercole features a single or double supporting structure as well as gold, copper or zinc metal finishes. Both tables come with round or oval tops. Reiecta also offers a range of 25 marble tops for both designs in the SerieZero collection. As an ongoing project, the collective will no doubt release other beautiful furniture designs in the near future. And we’ll be watching. Images courtesy of Reiecta.
