Designed by architects Andreas Fuhrimann and Gabrielle Hächler, this sporting tower oversees the Rotsee Delta in in Lucerne, Switzerland. Held above the water by concrete pillars, the three-story construction is the first phase of the Naturarena Rotsee development and will be followed up by a rowing center in 2016. The tower itself was made as a place to view seasonal rowing competitions on the lake. Even as the building’s shutters are closed for most of the year, the structure is nonetheless appealing to the eye. Inspired by sculpture, the tower is irregularly stacked for visual interest, bringing drama to its otherwise spartan pinewood and concrete form.
